Schools in Tallahassee Celebrated Read Across America Week
Woodville
Students from Woodville's 21st Century After School Program enjoyed listening to Dr. Seuss books and making a bulletin board. In the media center Mrs. Ingram celbrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by reading Oh the Places You'll Go with second through fifth grade students. The kindergarten and first grade students heard And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street. Mrs. Davis said that everyone had a good time.
DeSoto Trail
Students from pre-k to third grade enjoyed the Dr. Seuss biography The Boy on Fairfield Street. Mrs. Kelly in the media center recorded teachers reading different Dr. Seuss books and showed them on ITV throughout the whole week. In first grade students read the digital version of Horton Hears a Who from Kidthing.com. There were also a school-wide Dr. Seuss read-a-thon in the afternoon called Read Across the Trail. Mrs. Ayrish's class celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday with a cake and a competition to see who could read the most Dr. Seuss books. Second graders read and performed a reader's theater on Daisey Head Mayze then watch the video to see how their performance compared to the animation. Everyone enjoyed a week filled with Seussical fun!
Buck Lake
At Buck Lake the kindergarten classes will have a celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday with Read Across America activities in all 6 classes, culminated with a read-aloud by the CAT in THE HAT (our principal, Mrs. Frick) in the media center for the entire grade level. During the morning each of the kindergarten classes will visit all of the other kindergarten teachers and participate in variety of Dr. Seuss inspired language arts games and learning experiences. Other classes are having special read-alouds and classroom activities planned by teachers, interns, and pre-interns on Monday, March 3rd, as well.
Apalachee
During Read Across America at Apalachee students participated in Cat in the Hat in the media center. They are showing a Story online over our ITV following the morning news, http://storylineonline.net. They have invited “readers” from the community to read to classes. There are “fun activities” that students can do throughout the week in media center (word searches, crossword puzzles, color sheets, poetry, etc.).
